The University of South Carolina's new School of Medicine Columbia is an ambitious initiative that will develop a modern, state-of-the-art facility, focusing on timely and cost-effective delivery while fostering innovation and collaboration in biomedical education and research.

SOMC Celebrates Topping Out Ceremony

The School of Medicine Columbia (SOMC) celebrated a time-honored tradition on Wednesday, Dec. 17, with a “topping out” ceremony at the new SOMC facility. The building proudly joins the BullStreet District skyline with the highest steel beam lifted during the event, where construction partners joined university president Michael Almiridis, members of the board of trustees, university leadership and SOMC’s interim dean Dr. Gerald Harmon. The Future of Health

This cutting-edge campus will feature modern classrooms, advanced clinical simulation spaces, an ultrasound lab, and a café. Additionally, a green quadrangle space will provide an ideal environment for outdoor study and events, enhancing the educational experience for students, faculty, and staff.
