Biography:
Dr. Marcelo Campos Hazan is a Latin-Americanist music historian whose research centers on music and nation-building in 19th-century Brazil. In addition to contributing to such publications as the Inter-American Music Review, Grove Music Online, and Revista Brasileira de Música, he has participated in a range of editorial and archival projects including the facsimile edition of the musical manuscripts at the Rio de Janeiro cathedral. He has taught courses on music history and appreciation at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Columbia University in the City of New York, where he was also appointed Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Latin American Studies. Dr. Hazan is presently working on a digital edition of the complete works of Cândido Inácio da Silva (1799/1800-1838) under the sponsorship of the Brazilian National Library Foundation and the American Musicological Society. He currently serves the Walker Institute as an Adjunct Professor of Latin American studies.
